The Austrian toll system is two-part: the area-wide vignette requirement for motorways and expressways, and section-specific tolls for certain sections.

4. Traffic Regulations in Austria

  • Speed limits: Motorway 130 km/h, rural road 100 km/h, urban area 50 km/h
  • Blood alcohol limit: 0.5 per mille (0.1 for new drivers)
  • Winter tyres: Mandatory in wintry road conditions
  • Warning triangles, first aid kit, high-visibility vest: Mandatory to carry
